At AMET University in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, a focused EV lab completed in February 2025 works as an electric vehicle training station that lets engineering students study an EV down to component level.

It comprises five items: a 4-wheeler simulation drive kit, a smart-BMS battery with OBD module, a PMSM motor cut-section, a DC-DC converter cut-section and a wiring harness kit. Together they cover the drivetrain, the battery pack and its management, power conversion and vehicle wiring.

Each item isolates one subsystem. The OBD module on the smart-BMS battery exposes pack data in the way a service technician reads it from a vehicle, while the PMSM motor and DC-DC converter cut-sections open up the rotor, windings and conversion stages that stay sealed inside a production EV.

Learners trace drivetrain operation on the simulation drive kit, read battery data through the OBD module, examine PMSM motor and DC-DC converter internals on the cut-sections, and follow the wiring architecture on the harness kit before working through diagnostic workflows. These tasks map to EV service technician and battery diagnostics roles.

Chennai's automotive manufacturing base is moving steadily towards electric models, and a compact station of this kind lets the university add component-level EV training to its engineering programmes without a full vehicle workshop.
