Students at Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya in Anand, Gujarat train in EV drivetrains, diagnostics and performance testing in an EV testing and simulation lab completed at the institute in December 2024.
Equipment includes 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler EV simulators with IoT-enabled test rigs, drivetrain training models and a 3-wheeler load testing setup with programmable data acquisition and driving cycle analysis. It also has EV charging station training units, BMS CAN protocol trainers, cut-section models of a BLDC motor, SRM motor, hub motor, differential and DC-DC converters, Li-ion battery manufacturing kits and wiring harness demonstrations.
A separate solar energy training lab followed at the institute in February 2025, giving the campus linked facilities for electric mobility and renewable energy.
Students run experiments on motor performance and vehicle load, monitor battery management systems and real-time data, compare motor types on the cut-sections and assemble Li-ion packs. This covers the testing methods used in EV validation, vehicle electronics and service roles.
The 3-wheeler load testing setup is the most distinctive part of the facility. Its programmable data acquisition records how a drivetrain responds as load and driving cycle change, which is directly relevant to India's electric three-wheeler segment, where vehicles routinely run heavy passenger and goods loads.
