From training scooters to a service ramp, the EV skill development lab at Dr Subash University in Junagadh, Gujarat gives students a full setup for electric vehicle training. It was completed in August 2025.
Equipment includes EV training scooters, a PMSM motor dynamometer with regenerative braking, a 4-wheeler buggy simulator, a multi-transmission PMSM drivetrain trainer, cut-section component models, a hydraulic service ramp, a charging station trainer, complete toolkits, PPE kits and EV wallcharts.
The hydraulic service ramp and PPE kits make the lab work like a service bay rather than a classroom: students raise vehicles, isolate the battery and follow the safety practice expected in an EV workshop.
Students measure motor performance and regenerative braking on the dynamometer, compare transmission options on the drivetrain trainer, diagnose faults and trace wiring on the training scooters, programme controllers and carry out maintenance on the hydraulic service ramp using the toolkits and PPE. These tasks match EV service technician and EV maintenance roles.
The dynamometer is the analytical core. By loading the PMSM motor and measuring torque and speed, students see how efficiency changes across the operating range and how much energy regenerative braking returns, the evidence behind range and controller tuning. For students in Junagadh and the wider Saurashtra region, this brings service-level EV training to their own campus.
