Trainees practise electric mobility skills on real EV systems at Government ITI Olpad in Gujarat, where a dedicated EV lab was completed in April 2026.
The lab is organised around three areas of work: EV systems, diagnostics and maintenance. Diagnostics links the other two. A technician must first understand how the battery, motor and controller interact before a fault code or an abnormal reading makes sense, and the right maintenance follows from that diagnosis.
The installation was carried out in collaboration with Edunet Foundation.
Trainees learn to inspect EV systems, run diagnostic checks to locate faults and carry out routine maintenance on electric vehicle components. These tasks match the day-to-day work of an EV service technician or EV maintenance assistant at a dealership, service centre or fleet workshop.
Olpad lies close to Surat, one of Gujarat's major industrial and commercial centres, where electric two-wheelers and commercial vehicles are a growing part of daily traffic. Each of those vehicles needs periodic inspection and repair, which makes service-ready ITI trainees directly employable in the local market.
