Practical training in electric mobility technologies is the purpose of the EV lab at Government ITI Guindy, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, completed in May 2026 in collaboration with Edunet Foundation.

The lab is built around three areas a technician handles once an electric vehicle reaches a service bay: EV systems, diagnostics and maintenance. Work on EV systems shows how the battery pack, motor controller and traction motor share power, and diagnostics practice teaches trainees to trace a fault through that chain in a logical order instead of replacing parts at random.

Edunet Foundation partnered with the institute on the project, giving the government ITI a dedicated space for electric mobility training alongside its established trades.

Trainees learn how EV systems are laid out, follow written diagnostic procedures and carry out routine maintenance tasks with the safety discipline that high-voltage work demands. This is the groundwork for roles such as EV service technician, battery maintenance technician and workshop technician at electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler dealerships.

Chennai is one of the country's main vehicle manufacturing centres, so trainees finishing at Guindy are entering a job market where EV service and assembly skills are increasingly part of everyday automotive work.
