EV Lab Setup at NIT Raipur

EV lab installed at NIT Raipur, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Installed in July 2024, the EV hardware-in-the-loop lab at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur, Chhattisgarh gives students a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) EV Test Rig for real-time simulation work.

The core of the setup is the HIL EV Test Rig, which simulates vehicle dynamics, motor behaviour and control strategies in real time and lets students connect controllers and run them under simulated road and load conditions.

In a hardware-in-the-loop arrangement, the controller is real but the vehicle around it is a model. The rig feeds the controller the signals a moving vehicle would produce and responds to its commands, so control code can be tested long before a prototype exists.

Students validate control algorithms, test controllers against the simulated vehicle, study fault scenarios and analyse drivetrain responses under varying road and load conditions, all without risking physical motors or battery packs. Fault cases that would be unsafe or expensive on real hardware can be repeated as often as needed. This is the work done in EV controls and powertrain validation roles.

For students at NIT Raipur, the rig supports coursework, final-year projects and research in electric vehicle control, giving them experience with a validation method used across the automotive industry.
