Ballari Institute of Technology and Management in Ballari, Karnataka now has a complete EV skill development lab, completed in January 2026, that covers everything from vehicle assembly to charging.
Equipment includes a 4W IoT-enabled transmission and drivetrain test bench, a 4-wheeler buggy simulator, a 2W e-scooty cut model, battery DIY and testing systems, a PMSM drivetrain with MIDC cycle and regenerative braking, a BMS-CAN protocol trainer, an EV charging station trainer, cut-section motor and component models, and complete tools and wallcharts.
Students can compare the compact layout of an electric scooter on the e-scooty cut model with a four-wheeler drivetrain on the IoT-enabled test bench, which streams operating data for analysis.
Students assemble and dismantle EV systems, run diagnostics, design and test battery packs, configure the BMS and read CAN communication, operate the charging station trainer, and analyse drivetrain performance under the MIDC driving cycle with regenerative braking. This prepares them for roles in EV testing, battery pack engineering and service.
The BMS-CAN protocol trainer lets students read cell data and fault codes over the CAN bus, the same workflow used in EV service workshops. The MIDC cycle, the Modified Indian Driving Cycle, reproduces Indian urban driving conditions on the bench, so drivetrain results relate directly to how vehicles behave on local roads.
