Rajeev Gandhi Memorial College of Engineering and Technology (RGMCET) in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh completed its Electric Vehicle Skill Development Lab, a complete EV training lab for engineering students, in April 2025.

Equipment includes PMSM-based multi-transmission drivetrain trainers with IoT control, 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler simulators, a single-wheel dyno with programmable MIDC and WLTC drive cycles, a BMS-CAN protocol trainer, an EV charging station unit, battery DIY and testing systems, a pulse spot-welder, cut-section component models and toolkits.

MIDC is the Modified Indian Driving Cycle used to rate vehicles sold in India, and WLTC is the worldwide light-vehicle test cycle; running both on the single-wheel dyno lets students compare energy consumption and range under standardised conditions. The BMS-CAN trainer shows how cell data and fault codes travel over the CAN bus.

Students analyse drivetrain performance across transmissions, run drive cycles on the dyno with data logging and visualisation, carry out CAN-based diagnostics and BMS programming on the protocol trainer, design and spot-weld battery packs, and study charging behaviour on the charging station unit. These tasks match the work of EV test engineers, battery pack engineers and EV diagnostics engineers.

Because the spot-welder, battery testers and dyno sit in one room, a pack that students design and build can be measured on a real drive cycle without leaving the lab.
