Described at launch as Bihar's first dedicated EV lab, the Electric Vehicle Lab at Sandip University in Sijoul, Bihar was completed in December 2023 for the university's students.
The lab is built for hands-on training on electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, covering EV powertrains, battery systems, motor controllers, charging infrastructure, diagnostics and safety protocols. Working across three vehicle categories shows students how the same building blocks of battery, controller and motor scale from a scooter to a passenger car.
Students work through powertrain operation, battery system checks, motor controller behaviour, charging procedures and fault diagnostics across vehicle categories, following EV safety protocols. These are the core tasks for roles such as EV service technician, battery technician and charging infrastructure technician.
The university also plans to use the facility for faculty upskilling, applied research and industry collaboration, making it a resource for teaching staff as much as for students.
Electric three-wheelers and two-wheelers have become part of everyday transport in Bihar, and the service and charging networks behind them need trained people locally. A university lab in Sijoul brings that practical training to students in the region.
