EV & Automotive Lab Setup at Government Polytechnic, Bolangir

Bolangir, OdishaCompleted EV & Automotive Lab
EV & Automotive lab installed at Government Polytechnic, Bolangir, Odisha

One workshop serves both electric vehicle and conventional automotive training at Government Polytechnic, Bolangir in Odisha, where an EV and automotive lab was completed in September 2024.

The lab covers EV technology, automotive systems and components, and diagnostics. Teaching the two together reflects the reality of today's service workshops, where technicians are expected to handle both petrol or diesel vehicles and electric ones.

Placing them side by side lets students compare an IC-engine drivetrain with an electric one: where the engine, gearbox and fuel system give way to a battery, controller and motor, and which systems such as brakes, steering and suspension stay largely the same.

Students identify components, study how each system works and practise diagnostic procedures that apply to both vehicle types, building skills for roles such as automotive service technician, EV technician and diploma-level workshop supervisor.

Since installation, hands-on training sessions have been running for students and faculty at the polytechnic, covering EV technology, automotive systems, components, diagnostics and practical applications. Training faculty alongside students means the lab can keep running as part of regular diploma teaching in Bolangir.
