EV lab installed at GM University, Davanagere, Karnataka

Hands-on learning in electric mobility technologies is available to students at GM University in Davanagere, Karnataka, through an EV lab the university completed in June 2026.

The lab combines EV training systems and diagnostic tools with components covering battery technology, BLDC motors, motor controllers, charging systems and EV powertrain fundamentals. The university positions the lab as a Centre of Excellence that connects academic coursework with industry requirements.

BLDC motors and their controllers are the standard drive in many electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Studying how a controller switches current through the motor windings shows students how these vehicles accelerate, hold speed and respond when something goes wrong.

Students test battery behaviour, study BLDC motor and controller operation, work through charging system checks and use the diagnostic tools to trace powertrain faults. These tasks build the base for roles such as EV service technician, battery technician and EV test engineer.

Located in Davanagere, the lab brings practical EV training to students in central Karnataka on their own campus, rather than in a metro training centre.
