At the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Bengaluru, Karnataka, an EV lab completed in January 2026 serves as an Electric Vehicle Centre of Excellence for end-to-end hands-on training on electric vehicle systems.
Equipment includes 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler EV simulators, IoT-enabled transmission and drivetrain test benches, a PMSM motor dyno with regenerative braking, lithium-ion battery test systems, high-capacity battery pack testers, RFID-enabled charging station workbenches, smart BMS-equipped battery packs and cut-section EV component models, supported by a complete set of tools, safety gear and maintenance infrastructure.
Separate testers for individual cells and for high-capacity packs let trainees work at both levels: identifying a weak cell, then seeing how it affects the performance and balancing of a complete pack managed by a smart BMS.
Trainees study drivetrain behaviour on the IoT test benches and motor dyno, including regenerative braking, carry out EV wiring and component troubleshooting, test cells and full packs on the battery testers, and follow charging protocols on the RFID charging workbenches, with real-time data monitoring. This builds skills for roles such as EV service technician, battery pack technician and charging station technician.
The RFID-enabled workbenches replicate how public chargers authenticate a user before a session starts, so trainees learn charger operation, protocol steps and fault checks as a site technician meets them in the field.
