Government ITI Shahpur in Maharashtra now runs a dedicated EV lab where trainees learn electric vehicle technology, components, diagnostics and maintenance. The workshop was completed in February 2025.
The lab was set up in collaboration with SRF Foundation and is fully equipped for hands-on training, so trainees learn by handling EV components rather than only studying diagrams.
Trainees use the lab to identify EV components, follow fault-diagnosis routines and carry out routine maintenance tasks. Those three skills form the daily work of an EV service technician: recognising the battery, controller, motor and charger, isolating which one has failed, and keeping each in safe working order.
Electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers are spreading well beyond Maharashtra's big cities, and smaller towns need trained hands to keep them running. A government ITI in Shahpur with its own EV workshop gives trainees from the area a direct route into that work.
