Real-time EV models are at the centre of the EV lab at Govt. ITI Thane in Thane, Maharashtra, completed in April 2026 to give trainees practical electric mobility training.
Training on the EV models is organised around three areas: battery systems, motor control and diagnostics. Working on live models rather than charts means trainees see battery output and motor response change in real time as they adjust the system.
The lab was set up in association with Edunet Foundation.
Using the EV models, trainees check battery condition, follow how a motor controller regulates the drive motor, and diagnose faults in a working system. These tasks prepare them for roles such as EV service technician, battery maintenance technician and EV diagnostic technician in dealerships and service workshops.
In Thane and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region, electric buses, delivery two-wheelers and passenger cars are adding steady demand for technicians who can work safely on high-voltage systems. Training on working models gives ITI trainees that safety habit before they enter a workshop.
