Since September 2024, diploma students at Government Polytechnic (GP), Kendrapara in Odisha have trained on electric vehicle systems in a dedicated EV lab at the polytechnic.
Training covers EV technology, battery systems, electric powertrains, charging systems and diagnostics, giving students practical, industry-ready skills rather than classroom theory alone.
Students use the lab to test battery systems, study how an electric powertrain delivers drive, follow charging procedures and run diagnostic checks. Battery work teaches them to judge the state of a pack and spot weak cells or poor connections; powertrain study shows how the controller manages the motor; and charging practice covers the safe connection and monitoring of a vehicle on charge.
This combination prepares diploma holders for work as EV service technicians, in battery maintenance, and in the installation and upkeep of charging points. For students in a coastal district such as Kendrapara, it offers a practical route into electric mobility jobs across Odisha and beyond.
