Built for practical EV servicing and maintenance training, the EV lab at ITI Gwalior in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh was completed in June 2025 for the institute's trainees.
The lab includes EV drivetrain trainers, wiring and diagnostic units, battery testing systems and practical repair tools. Each set covers one stage of real service work: the drivetrain trainers expose the path from motor and controller to the wheels, the wiring and diagnostic units let trainees trace circuits and locate faults, and the battery testing systems are used to judge whether a battery is healthy before a vehicle goes back to its owner.
Trainees use the drivetrain trainers and diagnostic units to identify faults, check batteries on the testing systems, replace components with the repair tools and carry out basic maintenance to industry requirements. These are the core tasks of an EV service technician or EV maintenance technician in a dealership or fleet workshop.
Electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars are now a routine sight in Madhya Pradesh, and the workshops that service them need technicians who can work safely around high-voltage parts. Practising fault-finding and component replacement on dedicated equipment gives ITI trainees in Gwalior that confidence before they step into a service bay.
