EV Lab Setup at Jharsuguda Engineering School

Learners at Jharsuguda Engineering School in Jharsuguda, Odisha convert an old ICE scooter into an electric two-wheeler in the EV retrofit lab completed there in July 2025.

The installation includes a 2-wheeler retrofitting kit for converting an ICE scooter to an electric drivetrain, and an EV charging station instruction and training kit. With the retrofit kit, the petrol engine gives way to an electric drivetrain and controller, so learners see exactly which parts of the original scooter change and which carry over.

Learners carry out the conversion themselves, wiring the electric drivetrain and integrating the controller, then practise safe charging operation on the charging station kit. This gives a working understanding of retrofit technology and charging systems, relevant to roles such as EV retrofit technician, EV service technician and charging station operator.

The charging station kit covers the other side of daily EV use: how a vehicle connects to supply, how a charging session is started and stopped, and the safety checks that come before any connection is made.

For an engineering school in western Odisha, retrofitting is a practical entry point into electric mobility. Petrol scooters are everywhere, and a technician who can convert one safely already understands the wiring, control and charging logic behind a factory-built electric two-wheeler.
