Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) in Burla, Odisha completed its EV Skill Lab in March 2026, giving the technical university a dedicated EV lab for its students.

The lab includes BMS CAN analysers and motor testing systems. A BMS CAN analyser connects to the battery management system and displays what it reports over the CAN bus, such as cell voltages, temperatures and fault codes, while the motor testing systems measure how a traction motor performs under load.

Students use the BMS CAN analysers to read battery management data over the CAN bus and diagnose battery faults, and use the motor testing systems to measure motor performance. These tasks give them hands-on experience used in EV battery and powertrain roles.

Reading CAN data is the same first step an EV service engineer takes when a vehicle reports a battery warning, and motor testing is routine work in drivetrain development and quality checks. Practising both at university lets VSSUT graduates contribute in battery, powertrain and validation teams from the start, without first having to learn the tools on the job.
