Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, an engineering college in Nagpur, Maharashtra, completed its EV Drivetrain and Motor Analysis Lab for students in September 2025.

The setup includes a BLDC motor cut-section with detailed charts, a complete 4-wheeler EV drivetrain model with battery pack and charger, and a hub motor cut-section display. Integrated indicators and display boards on the drivetrain model show live readings during practicals.

Students trace drivetrain wiring, extract motor phase data, measure RPM, analyse component voltages and troubleshoot faults using the indicators and display boards. The cut-sections show the internal architecture of BLDC and hub motors, so students connect what they see inside the motor with drivetrain behaviour.

Placing the two motor types side by side makes a useful design comparison: a hub motor sits inside the wheel and drives it directly, while a separately mounted BLDC motor passes torque through the drivetrain. Reading phase data on a working model then shows how the controller switches the motor windings to produce smooth rotation.

Motor phase analysis and voltage measurement are everyday tools in EV drivetrain integration, testing and diagnostics, the areas where Maharashtra's automotive and component makers recruit engineering graduates.
