Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) in Nashik, Maharashtra took delivery of an electric passenger vehicle for EV training in August 2025, a single-vehicle alternative to a full EV lab.

The delivery is an E-Tourist Passenger Vehicle with 11 seats and 1100 kg payload capacity. Training on a complete, road-going commercial vehicle shows learners how the drivetrain, battery and safety systems behave together under a real passenger load, something bench trainers cannot fully reproduce.

Learners use the vehicle to study EV drivetrain behaviour, safety systems, fleet operations and real-world passenger transport use cases, along with electric mobility operations and maintenance. This builds practical knowledge for roles in commercial EV operation and maintenance.

Electric shuttles of this kind move visitors around campuses, pilgrimage sites and tourist areas, and Nashik sees heavy visitor traffic of its own. As an open university, YCMOU can use the vehicle to give its learners practical exposure to commercial electric mobility that a classroom course alone would not provide.
