Completed in September 2026, the EV and solar lab at Government ITI Kalaburagi, Karnataka serves trainees as a Centre of Excellence for electric mobility and renewable energy.
On the electric mobility side, the Centre of Excellence covers EV technology, battery systems, motors and controllers. On the renewable energy side, it covers solar PV systems and inverters.
The lab was established in association with TNS Foundation. For a government ITI, combining the two fields is practical: battery handling, DC wiring and inverter operation are common to both, so trainees build one skill base that serves two growing trades.
Trainees use the lab to trace how a battery pack, motor and controller work together in an electric vehicle, and how solar PV modules deliver usable power through an inverter. This prepares them for entry roles such as EV service technician, battery maintenance technician and solar PV installation technician.
In north Karnataka, where solar generation is expanding and electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers are increasingly common, these skills give Kalaburagi trainees work options close to home as well as in the state's larger cities.
