Government ITI Pavagada in Karnataka now combines electric vehicle and solar energy training in one facility, with an EV and solar lab completed at the institute in April 2026.
The lab uses real-time working models and practical learning modules across four areas: electric vehicle systems, battery technology, solar panel installation and energy management.
The lab was set up in association with SRF Foundation. Its location gives the solar modules particular weight: Pavagada taluk is home to a large solar park, so trainees are learning a trade that is visible on the ground around them.
Trainees practise mounting and wiring solar panels, study how batteries store and release energy, and follow energy flows through the energy management modules. On the EV side, they work through vehicle systems on the working models. Typical roles include solar PV installer, solar plant O&M technician, EV service technician and battery technician.
Battery technology runs through both halves of the course, which helps trainees move between solar and EV work as openings arise.
