Electric vehicles and solar energy, two green technology areas, come together in the EV and solar lab at Government ITI Trichy, Tamil Nadu, completed in March 2026 for trainees.
The lab covers electric vehicle systems and solar energy applications with industry-relevant tools and systems, so trainees can move between both fields in one space. On the vehicle side, the focus is how a battery, controller and motor are wired together and serviced; on the solar side, it is how panels, charge control and inverters are connected and checked before a system is handed over.
SRF Foundation partnered with the institute to establish the lab, bringing CSR support to practical green-skills training at a government ITI.
The common thread is direct current: trainees who have studied circuits and power in the classroom see the same principles at work in a vehicle drive system and in a rooftop solar installation, which links theory to bench practice. The skills feed into roles such as EV service technician, solar PV installer and solar operations and maintenance technician.
For trainees in Trichy, the combination opens two routes into work, as Tamil Nadu builds both its electric vehicle industry and its renewable energy capacity.
