Working with SRF Foundation, government ITIs in Karnataka established Electric Vehicle and Solar Centres of Excellence, with work on these EV and solar labs completed by March 2026.
Each centre covers EV systems, solar energy, battery technology and renewable energy. Building all four into one centre means trainees see how a solar installation generates power, how batteries store it and how an electric vehicle uses it.
The programme was set up in association with SRF Foundation, using CSR support to bring green-energy training into the government ITI network.
Trainees get industry-aligned, hands-on practice in EV systems, battery technology and solar energy. Battery work is the common link, since the same principles of cell behaviour, charging and safe handling apply in both a vehicle and a solar storage system. This prepares them for careers in roles such as EV service technician, battery assembly technician and solar PV installer.
For ITI trainees in Karnataka, the centres offer a practical route into electric mobility and renewable energy work across the state.
