Government ITIs in Maharashtra gained EV and solar labs through a programme with TNS Foundation, with the work completed in March 2024.
The labs cover EV systems, battery technology, solar energy solutions and sustainable mobility. These areas connect in practice: solar energy can charge a battery, and a battery can power an electric vehicle, so trainees learn each link in that chain.
The labs were set up in association with TNS Foundation, using CSR support to add green-technology training to government ITIs.
Trainees get practical training in emerging green technologies, from how an EV's battery, controller and motor work together to how a solar installation is wired and checked. Handling batteries safely and understanding how they charge and discharge underpins both strands. These industry-ready skills lead to roles such as EV service technician, solar PV installer and battery technician.
For ITI trainees in Maharashtra, a state with a strong automotive manufacturing base, the labs open entry points into both electric mobility and renewable energy employment.
